Why not just include mission pack inside GW:EN's gw.dat file when bought or downloaded?

I know Anet want to make a profit and their selling it online so as not to be undercut from the RRP. But why is the mission pack even being provided seperately from GW:EN?

Anet is releasing two expansions, virtually at the same time, but releasing them seperately. This seems odd to me.

One, because the mission pack is only 4 missions and tiny.

Secondly because the original bonus pack (which you can buy seperately now), was released with one of the special edition versions before it was sold seperately.

I could understand them releasing it seperately if you didnt want to buy GW:EN, but I think they should include it into GW:EN for those who do.

It wont cost them anymore to do so because your not creating extra CDs or packaging. Your not adding anymore materials during production.

I'm obviously one of those people who likes to buy their games from the store, and have a box to hold. Because of that, I wont ever be able to purchase the mission pack as its being sold at the minute.

I dont want to pay full RRP for a game which I can get cheaper elsewhere, and there is nothing else in the online store I would want to buy for £17.99.

Yes Anet get undercut when retailers sell their games for less then RRP, but thats marketting for you! If they dont want people going to play.com or game.uk then they need to offer more competitive prices.

If they sold a boxed set of GW:EN in their online store for £17.99 then I could be tempted. But at the minute play.com is screaming out to me saying "dont be a fool and pay £10 more when you dont need to!".

In terms of marketting, Anet isnt really offering us enough to temp us away from sights like play.com.

Spending £29.99 for an unboxed GW:EN that will take hours to download and a mission pack that only offers another 4 missions, doesnt apeal to me or win me over!

So why not just include the mission pack as part of GW:EN?

I think you answered your own question: Anet wants to make more money.

Period.

Why give away the cow when you can sell the milk? (or something like that...)

In other words, why should Anet give up their only incentive to buy from the Online Store?

I like the idea. Anet gets to sell EotN, both via in-game store and normal stores, stops the people getting annoyed because they either have to buy EotN via the store, buy stuff they don't want via the store or forgo it entirely

I emailed PlayNC as I like the boxes, books and posters (at my age these little things keep me happy!) and I have Proph, Factions and Nightfall and will be getting GW:EN in August. I want the mission pack but will by the expansion from a retailer.

Their email stated :- "Thank you very much for contacting the Guild Wars Customer Support Team. At the moment the only way to get the new bonus mission pack is as it is explained in the official website (http://eu.guildwars.com/support/article/missionpack/).

However, after reviewing your email, we have decided to forward the information to the appropriate team so they can have a closer look. The Guild Wars teams are continually making changes to improve the game and looks at your feedback very closely to make this happen."

So maybe there is hope for old gits like me who like shiny new things.......

It seems you yourself are slightly confused. The mission pack will get streamed to anybody that uses the -image command. its the same thing with the Campaigns basically. You can have them all on your computer, yet without a valid key, you wont be able to access them.

Unless they changed the system for a missionpack, This is how its always been. Your post should be changed to "Anet should add a Mission Pack key alongside gwen".

Then we get onto the second thought bubble. It probably is too late to add the keys since a whole lot of boxes are probably already made.

it is a limited promotion thats why.

AS FOR THE DOWNLOAD YOU GET THE FULL DOWNLOAD EVEN WITHOUT BUYING GWEN.

I've seen this warning before, and must admit, don't quite understand the concern.

Can people access your game password through the Online Store?

(My game password and Store password are different.

I agree that if GW:EN is £29.99 this "free" bonus will cost me £12

A-net is a buisness, period. They need to make money because we don't pay a monthly subscription. By putting the bonus pack in the online store there is NO marketing costs of making a box, cd, or anything else. They will just send u a file over the internet, simple as that.
If you really want a box that you will get rid of after so long then get the box and dont complain because you had the same chance as everyone else to get the free bonus mission stuff.

For the people who dont want all that stuff this is great. It is a reason to use the online store and now I don't have to worry about the store calling me and telling me when my copy is ready. I just get a file when I login.

So what it comes down to is promotion of the online store and that they NEED to make money anyway that they can. If that be in saving money from not makin as many boxes or even elimanating the middle man all the power to them. They get my money either way now they just get more of it to higher that one more tech guy so they can create an even better game.

So quit whining!

Well, my thoughts are this:

If you buy GWEN from the online store, you'll get the mission pack.
The more Online Copies they sell, the fewer hard copies they sell.
The fewer hard copies they sell, the less it costs to produce and the more they save on shipping.

So, it's ANET's way of saving money.
